Source Community Connexion

The source of every product is a community

image Our Source Community Connexion program uses supply chains to create development projects around a common interest: the welfare of a community producing something of value to a U.S. company. For example, a U.S. coffee shop can provide books and needed supplies to a school in the same community where its coffee beans are grown in Colombia or an apparel company can sponsor a health fair outside the factory that makes its clothing in India. As communities receive critical support, the U.S. corporate sponsors build and strengthen partnerships along essential international supply chains. Businesses at the source of each supply chain provide connections to local organizations already hard at work in their community. This real-time information allows PIER to match our projects to meet needs in that particular region. Besides making a difference as a responsible community stakeholder, our U.S. project sponsors have also gained valuable market intelligence, discovered new products for sale, and informally audited the employment practices and quality controls of their suppliers.

Examples of Our Turnkey CSR Projects:

  • Books and Supplies for Schools
  • Health & Nutrition Fairs
  • Verifica Training (defeats human trafficker tactics)
  • Water Purification Micro-Enterprise
  • Sewing Micro-Enterprise
  • Bakery Micro-Enterprise

Our Track Record

Since 2011, PIER Institute has created a portfolio of CSR projects for U.S. companies including starting micro-enterprises for water purification, health fairs, and equipping rural schools with supplies. Through Q2 of 2020, PIER Institute projects have:

  • Provided more than 30,000 gallons of clean drinking water to poor communities through locally-operated water businesses;
  • Trained students, teachers, and community leaders in tactics proven to protect children from human traffickers; and
  • Provided health kits and education to hundreds of children in rural regions.

With each project, a U.S. corporate sponsor has invested in a community it depends on for products as diverse as coffee, clothing, and pharmaceutical gel caps.

We currently are seeking companies that buy products from Colombia, India, or Ethiopia to sponsor new project opportunities in those regions.
